Jack Alden

Jack Alden’s artistry shines through each unique piece of his glass art. He works in a variety of styles, blending his love of water, trees, snow, and elements of nature into his glass creations. Raised in nature with sustainability and caring for the planet as core values, Alden has been working most recently with recycled glass, transforming discarded bottles into beautiful, large-scale installations. He believes this is his duty as an artist to not only take care for our Earth, but to lead by example and inspire future generations to do the same. His limited edition Truffula Tree sculptures further this message.

Alden’s travels in search of knowledge and diverse experience have offered him myriad, unique opportunities and access to some of the best teaching and artistry in contemporary glass art.

About Jack Alden

Alden was introduced to glassblowing while studying at Eckerd College amid the growing local arts scene in St. Petersburg, Florida. Immediately taken with the alchemy and beauty of glass, he deepened his understanding of the complex material studying under local glass artists at Zen Glass Studio and working as a docent at the Morean Art Center’s Chihuly collection. Inspired by the work of Dale Chihuly, Alden continued his pursuit of glass art at the Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina.

He went on to serve as teaching assistant to Christopher McElroy at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Richmond, Virginia, and as a glass handler for the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Chihuly Tour. In addition to caring for the exhibit at the VMFA, Alden worked with the Seattle-based team to unpack, assemble, and ultimately take down the Chihuly exhibit that is currently touring the United States.

Inspired by the community and the art scene of Richmond, Alden opened his first studio, Studio 1050, in 2013 while studying for his Business & Entrepreneurship degree at VCU.

After three years developing and running his studio, Alden started a new project, USArt Odyssey, when he took a 7-month road trip across the U.S. He had the chance to return to inspirational places, as well as discover new studios and environments such as l’Île de Ré, France, Miami, FL, California, Oregon, and the GAS conference in Corning, NY. His travels have offered unique opportunities to learn from peers and expert and given him access to some of the best teaching and artistry in contemporary glass art.
